Senior Scholarships

Scholarships listed here may be offered by a local, state or nationwide group.  Some are offered by specific universities or for specific courses of sudy.  Some scholarships have paper applications available in guidance and some are available by applying to the link on-line.  This blog lists only a small percentage of the scholarship opportunities available to you.  You can search for more scholarships by

  • Talking with the financial aid offices of the college or colleges in which you are interested.  Many colleges have a deadline for application to their school which you must meet to be considered later for their own scholarships.  Nov.1, Nov. 15 and Dec. 1 are common deadlines for this.
  • Googling different corporations, organizations and foundations on-line.
  • Checking with the various employers of family members.
  • Talking to other faculty members and college alumni about scholarships the may have received or of which they are aware.

NEVER PAY FOR SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION!  All scholarship information is available free to you.  Beginning in January of your senior year, you will complete the FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid).  This form, which is much like a tax return, is due to be received by March 10 and should be submitted no later than March 1.  It goes to the federal government, the state government, then on to the college or colleges to which you have been accepted.  This one application results in an SAR (Student Aid Report) which is a letter you receive telling you what grants, loans or scholarships will be offered to you from all levels.  Companies who send you an offer to search for scholarships for a fee are scams!

Merit based scholarships = scholarships based on your academic accomplishments, activities and community service.
Needs based scholarships = scholarships based on financial need.
