NHPS Graduation Requirements
At North Putnam High School, all students enter with the expectation of earning the Core 40 Diploma, the Core 40 Diploma with Academic Honors or the Core 40 Diploma with Technical Honors. The State of Indiana also offers a general minimum diploma which is available at North Putnam High School following a special conference in which the general diploma is agreed upon by the student, parents, an administrator and the counselor. Requirements for these diplomas are as follows:
Core 40 Diploma 43 semesters (43 credits)
English 8 semesters English 9 2 semesters English 10 2 semesters English 11 2 semesters English 12 2 semesters Speech 1 semester Math 6 semesters Algebra or Integrated Math I 2 semesters Geometry or Integrated Math II 2 semesters Algebra II or Integrated Math III 2 semesters Science 6 semesters Biology 2 semesters Integrated Chemistry Physics or Chemistry or Physics 2 semesters One other Core 40 Science 2 semesters (May be Human Anatomy & Physiology, Earth Science, ALS agriscience course.) Social Studies 6 semesters World History & Civilation 2 semesters United States History 2 semesters US Government 1 semester Economics 1 semester Physical Education 2 semesters Health and Wellness 1 semester Fine Arts 1 semester (Band, Choir or Art) Business 2 semesters Digital Communications 1 semester Computer Applications 1 semester
Core 40 with Academic Honors (47 semesters – 47 credits)
Core 40 with Academic Honors requires the 43 credits listed above plus: Earn a “C” or better in individual courses that count toward the diploma. Final GPA must be 3.0 or better. English – must be Honors English for at least grades 10-12 Math - total 8 semesters adding Pre-Calculus 2 semesters or Probability & Statistics 1 semester and Discrete Math 1 semester Foreign Language – 6 semesters of one language or 8 semesters - four each of two languages (Spanish is the only foreign language currently offered at North Putnam.) Fine Arts – 2 semesters To complete the Core 40 with Academic Honors, students of 2010+ must also complete one of the following: 1. Two AP courses. 2. Six dual credits. 3. One AP course and three dual credits. 4. Score 1200 combined critical reading/math SAT or a combined reading /math 26 ACT.
